Loxwood 2-3 Langney Wanderers

Langney finally got that elusive win today at Loxwood. This first ever meeting between the clubs at the picturesque Plaistow Road ground was played in miserable conditions, but undeterred the Langney faithful made the long trip to mid Sussex.

Langney started brightly in the first 10 minutes, they got in behind the Loxwood defence a couple of times early on and perhaps should have gone ahead after Tyler Capon blazed a good opportunity over the bar.

The initial bright start from the Wanderers soon faded as Loxwood started to get control of the ball and create several chances, on 22 minutes the Loxwood striker latched onto a through ball and the onrushing Dan Hutchins was adjudged to have brought him down for a penalty. Tom Frankland stepped up to send Dan Hutchins the wrong way and give Loxwood the lead.

Loxwood continued to cause us problems as we got to grips with a change in formation, we eventually started to get back in the swing of it and carve open some opportunities of are own. Max Hollobone's set piece delivery was causing problems and eventually on 41 minutes Billy Pout got his head to a corner to get a deserved equalizer.

Half-Time 1-1

The second half started and the rain became more steady, both teams were then guilty of giving the ball away too cheaply in the poor conditions. One such moment on 49 minutes led to Paul Rogers being sent through with a beautiful weighted pass, showing an unbelievable turn of pace he held off two defenders to slot home expertly in off the far post.

Langney looked much more composed second half having taken the lead, they would go on to extend that lead on 65 minutes when Wayne Wilkinson outpaced the Loxwood defence to finish expertly in the bottom corner to make it 3-1.

The two goal advantage didn't last long as the Magpies looked to get back into the game, On 70 minutes Langney gave away a cheap free kick 25 yards out and this was beautifully dispatched by Loxwood new boy Lewis Westlake to cut the deficit in half.

Loxwood continued to huff and puff, but too often they lacked the quality in the final third to cause us problems. Wanderers started to play on the counter as the game became more stretched and we were able to see it out the final tense minutes for the much needed victory.

Full-Time 2-3

An entertaining game but probably not the best performance. More importantly though good enough to get the 3 points, which is what ultimately counts. Next up for Andy Goodchild's men is the visit of Hassocks to Priory Lane on Saturday 29th September. Another huge game for us so hopefully we will see plenty fans down the Lane to roar us on to another 3 points.
