Huge Team Performance

Langney Wanderers 1-0 Crawley Down Gatwick
Match Report by Steve Roberts
It was another big day at Priory Lane as we went in search of another vital 3 points. Crawley Down beat us pretty convincingly up at there place so we knew the task in hand would be difficult. Shaun Lee came into the starting team for his debut following his recent move from Seaford and Evan Archibald was back in the fold following his injury.
It was a nervy start for Wanderers and Crawley Down really put us under some early pressure, we eventually started to get a foothold in the game. Following a few half chances for both teams, it was Langney who created the first real chance though after good work by Gary Ingram he pulled the ball back only for Tariq Straker to put it the wrong side of the post.
Langney started too really dominate in the attacking third and defensively we started to look more composed after a shaky start. Langney then got given a penalty in the 28th minute after a determined run by Evan Archibald resulted in him being fouled. Up stepped Richard Pingling who put the resultant penalty into the top corner, nothing the Crawley Down keeper could do about stopping that. (1-0)
Langney looked to be very composed in and out of possession and limiting Crawley Down attacking threat as the half came to an end.
Half Time (1-0)
Langney started the second half brightly and Tariq Straker got shot away just after the restart, Crawley Down then started to dominate possession but a disciplined Wanderers made it very hard for them to get anything near the goal while we were starting to look dangerous in attack.
Crawley Down had a penalty appeal turned down by the referee, after what looked like a push in the box by Paul Rogers much to there benches annoyance. Crawley Down then had probably there best chance of the match in the 60th minute when they had a double chance, first up Max Hollobone made an excellent covering block from there number 10 and then Dan Hutchins made a save from the follow-up shot before Langney cleared their lines.
As Crawley Down continued to press for an equaliser it was leaving them more exposed at the back, Evan Archibald, Richard Pingling and Gary Ingram all had excellent chances on the break to finish the match off but the Crawley Down keeper was proving difficult to beat with an excellent performance.
Full Time (1-0)
Despite the narrow scoreline, it was an excellent Langney performance for the entire 90 minutes and on another day the score could have been much higher. Probably what was most pleasing from a Wanderers point of view was our work rate, focus and discipline for the entirety of the match.
Next up for us is the short trip across town to take on a much improved Eastbourne United team who are scrapping for there lives to avoid relegation. No doubt this weeks performance and result will give the squad the huge mental boost as we look to secure back to back wins.
