Shoreham Fc 1-3 Langney Wanderers
Kenny McCreadie got off to a winning start as Langney Wanderers traveled to Shoreham today. A full strength Langney team welcomed newcomers Trevor McCreadie and Meshach Smieth into the starting line up and Adam Davidson returned from his suspension.
The match started brightly with Langney creating the first chance, following an initial poor corner the ball made it's way back to Max Hollobone who delivered a much better effort second time around which captain Paul Rogers flicked onto the near post and out.
The play was far from one sided but Langney looked the more threatening on the attack, the breakthrough came on 11 minutes when a long throw from Luke Denton was flicked on by Paul Rogers for Trevor McCreadie to chip past the keeper. The goal stood despite Shoreham's offside protests which look well founded at the time.
Shoreham front man Andrew Dahlhouse was causing problems at the other end though without really troubling Dan Hutchins, the equalizer came from centre back Tadley Bromage on 27 minutes. A Shoreham ball from the left wasn't cleared properly and the ball dropped to him and he buried the chance past a helpless Dan Hutchins.
Langney's lead was soon restored, on 31 minutes the ball fell to Wayne Wilkinson 25 yards out following a Shoreham clearance, he sublimely smashed it into the top corner to make it 2-1. Langney were starting to exert a lot more control on the game now and bar a last ditch challenge from the impressive Bromage, Paul Rogers would have added a third.
Defensively Wanderers were looking very solid now with young Dan Carter and Lucas Mann both impressing in the full back positions, Shoreham started to push forward as the second half progressed looking for that equalizer, but Langney's back line stayed strong apart from a few half chances.
Langney had the chance to go three up when Trevor McCreadie missed cued his shot from 6 yards when scoring looked a certainty. Wanderers then replaced the wide men with fresh legs of youth and both Tyler Capon and Gary Ingram impressed during there spells.
Not long after coming on Tyler Capon sent a lovely weighted ball down the channel to send Trevor McCreadie clean through on goal, the advancing keeper managed to close the space enough and make a fine save.
Shoreham then seemed to start losing there heads with arguments breaking out on the field of play between themselves, not a sight the Shoreham management and players would probably like to see again. Saying that they continued to throw the kitchen sink at us and battle to get back on level terms but this eventually led to Wanderer's third on 86 minutes.
Following a Shoreham corner the ball was cleared to Gary Ingram who ran 60 yards to the other by line, he then pulled it back for the on rushing Max Hollobone to finish well with a controlled sliding volley to settle the game. Langney went on to see out the remaining minutes without much ado.
A much improved performance from Langney today with good performances throughout the squad but especially in defence, Wayne Wilkinson's goal was a sublime bit of quality and I look forward to seeing that again courtesy of Your Instant Replay
