Wanderers Hit For Six
Broadbridge Heath 6-0 Langney Wanderers
Match Report by Steve Roberts
It was a dismal day all round as Langney traveled to Broadbridge Heath, a mixture of injury, suspension and unavailability meant we travelled with just the one sub in the form of Gary Ingram who has been out recently with a knee injury.
The match kicked off with strong winds and driving rain so it was going to be challenging conditions for both teams, the first 20-25 minutes were fairly even with both teams creating opportunities but eventually Heath started to get on the front foot. They took the lead on 26 minutes through Lee Carney who dinked the ball over the on rushing Dan Hutchins after he had got in behind the Corey Heywood Roye.
The Bears were now on top and went further ahead on 36 minutes from a Heath corner, Ryan Brackpool got ahead of Tariq Straker to squeeze the ball in at the near post to make it 2 nil. Things then went from bad to worse for Langney, Mathew Fear was subbed off for Gary Ingram and minutes later Ryan Alexander got a straight red for a late challenge. Most seemed to think it should've been yellow but the man in black decided otherwise.
Then when in injury time Corey Heywood-Roye looked to have been fouled by a Heath player but nothing was given by the ref. Heath then punished Langney straight away going down the other end with Corey still prone on the ground with Richard Wetton making it 3 nil at half time.
Wanderers came out second half with 9 men as Corey Heywood-Roye couldn't continue with what looks like a broken foot. 9 man Wanderers never gave up and still continued to try and counter when they could. Eventually the second half resistance was broken on 65 minutes with Tom Howard-Bold getting a 4th, this was quickly followed up with a 5th when Richard Wetton getting his second of the match on 67 minutes.
George Cousins then made it 6 nil in the 73rd minute and consign Langney to it's heaviest defeat of the season so far.
Overall a very disappointing score line but things conspired against us today, the 9 men battled valiantly second half so you can't fault Langney's effort but we have to be more disciplined as red cards and suspensions are really hurting us at the moment. Next up we welcome fellow strugglers Arundel to Priory Lane on Tuesday night in what will be a massive 6 pointer for both teams.
