Quick fire Saltdean Punish Langney
By Steve Roberts
Saltdean United 4-1 Langney Wanderers
Match Report By Steve Roberts
It was another dismal first half performance for Langney Wanderers as they conceded 3 goals in the first 18 minutes.
Similar to the performance at East Preston a fortnight ago, Wanderers showed a lack of intensity and were second to everything. Wanderers had an early warning in the first minute when Dan Hutchins had to make a smart save from a Jamie Brotherton shot from 20 yards. Soon after Langney would be one down when Corey Haywood-Roye misdirected a regulation header that fell kindly for Toby House to run through and slot under the on rushing Dan Hutchins to make it 1 nil.
Two minutes later Wanderers would find themselves 2 down when possession was given away cheaply and Saltdean broke, the ball found it's way to Jamie Brotherton on the wing who ran clear to cross for the unmarked Toby House to slot home his second inside 5 minutes and give Langney a mountain to climb.
Langney would then go further behind to an absolute stunner from Jamie Brotherton, Saltdean were given far to much time to ping a cross field ball to Brotherton who controlled it beautifully with one touch and smashed it home with a left peg stunner. A quality goal but more woeful defending from a Langney point of view.
Langney managed to muster some fight in the last 10 minutes of the half and went close when Adam Davidson headed goal bound from an excellent dead ball from Paul Weatherby.
Langney came out second half and switched to a back 3, Langney continued to press to get into the game but couldn't make that clear cut chance. To often the final shot was wayward or tame to trouble the Saltdean stopper. Wanderers could have gone further behind if it wasn't for smart save from Dan Hutchins and goal line clearance by Ryan Alexander.
Saltdeans 4th eventually came after some more poor defending from a Langney point of view, a deep cross wasn't dealt with properly and it was fed back to that man Jamie Brotherton to score his second of the day. Langney continued to knock but without really troubling Saltdean but they were eventually rewarded for there efforts when Tariq Straker spotted the keeper off his line and had a shot from about 40 yards, Nathan Stroomberg the Saltdean keepr back pedaled to collect the ball but misjudged it and fell over the line with it.
A rather bizarre goal and one that i'm sure Tariq Straker will greatfully accept and Nathan give to him. All in all a very poor performance from Langney again with Saltdean being very worthy winners on the day playing some excellent football through out the 90 minutes.
Next up for the Wanderers is a visit from neighbours Eastbourne United, this will be a huge match for both teams and we look forward to your support once more at Priory Lane.
