10 Men Arundel Keep Langney at Bay
Arundel 0-0 Langney Wanderers
Following the disappointment of the FA Cup exit on Sunday it was time to get back to league action away to Arundel at one of the most picturesque grounds in the league, in the shadow of the castle. The hosts have had a positive start to the season following their relegation challenges last term.
Peter Featherstone & Ryan Alexander joined the starting lineup after their return from holidays with Billy Crittenden withdrawing from the squad last minute.
The early play was fairly evenly balanced with both teams trying to play good football. The hosts are a young side with plenty of running. The ref didn’t have a great half with both benches unhappy with some of the decisions. Things came to a head on 25 mins when a foul from Ryan Alexander which ended-up being a case of mistaken identity on no less then 2 occasions before coming to the final conclusion. Skipper Rogers was also carded for voicing his views on the matter. Immediately afterwards a second yellow was brandished for a challenge from Ben Gray who was promptly given his marching orders. Followed by a stamp on one of our players that was missed by the ref and a card brandished to Wilkinson for his protests. For the remaining 15 mins the home side banked-up and sat deep content to see out the half. HT 0-0.
Second half the game opened up with the visitors enjoying more of the possession with the extra man advantage but the hosts still dangerous on the break looking to hit on the counter. A number of chances for the Wanderers found themselves either wide, over the bar or saved by the Arundel keeper and MOTM Dan Hutchins pulled off two fantastic saves to earn his side their first clean sheet. FT 0-0.
Clearly the hosts were happier than the visitors at the end having held off the challenge with a man down for 60 minutes. Conversely Andy Goodchild’s men will probably feel it was 2 points lost rather than one point gained and a game of missed chances. However a clean sheet, away from home against a side that has not yet lost this season bodes well going forward.
Next up is Peacehaven at Priory Lane on Tuesday evening in the league followed by a second visit from the same team in the Peter Bentley Cup on Saturday. Makes for an interesting week.
MOTM - Dan Hutchins (who has impressed between the sticks this season and pulled off two fantastic saves)
